Expedition   28/6/2014

As a boy, I stayed with an uncle at Apsley, and was intrigued by the name of a nearby place, Bringalbert. I hadn’t thought of it until reading this, about 55 years down the track. Who was Albert? And more importantly, did they bring him?

Hah ! But it might be pronounced “bringle-bert”.
My good Wife’s 2 uncles had a farm close by to bringalbert, but I still do not know how to pronounce the name. I feel yours might be the accepted pronunciation.
But my trouble with the language of the Western District should be no surprise, because when I parked the car outside the Catholic church in Edenhope, my question was “who is this malarchy bloke”? Now I think the pronunciation of that Saint’s name might be ‘Mal-arr-ki’. Good thing my Catholic in-laws are tolerant!

Isn’t he the prime minister of Iraq? Or a former Geelong full-back? Aw, it’s all malarky anyway.
