We report a survey (N> 1100) of climate blog users to identify the variables underlying acceptance and rejection of climate science. Paralleling previous work, we find that endorsement of a laissez-faire conception of free-market economics predicts rejection of climate science.. Endorsement of the free market also predicted the rejection of other established scientific findings, such as the facts that HIV causes AIDS and that smoking causes lung cancer. We additionally show that endorsement of a cluster of conspiracy theories (e.g., that the CIA killed Martin-Luther King or that NASA faked the moon landing) predicts rejection of climate science …
I’m effing sick of how these dishonest assholes hang on to their taxpayer funded jobs, despite the public exposure of their professional inadequacy. Not long ago, I went as close as possible to having my career end in disgrace because I overlooked a threatening comment – one of about 2000 I processed in about six hours. I accepted my punishment, because in my mind I’d erred in the pursuit of improving the product, but nevertheless I’d made a mistake which could have cost my employer dearly. P****s like Lewandowsky deliberately publish garbage like this and we, his employers, have no power to have his continued employment questioned, let alone deservedly terminated.
Hopefully we can all blame Abbott real soon.
