Symbol of the times 7/11/2009
A young fella down at the pub-TAB this morning was sporting a red T-shirt with a hammer and sickle on the back. No one took offence, setting me to wonder what the reaction would be if he’d been wearing the symbol of that other source of genocidal socialism, the swastika. Short shrift, I’d reckon. Yet the empire under the Soviet symbol trumped Hitler’s record for murder by up to five to one. As the TV prof used to ask: “Why is it so?”
At least the Nazis no longer have control of nations. Not the case in a certain communist dictatorship where women-bashing thugs run security:
Penultimos Dias has word that Yoani Sanchez and other Cuban bloggers have been arrested in Havana.
Ernesto, I have just spoken with Yoani, she is already in her house. She took a blow to the eye. They have beaten her physically and verbally. Orlando as well. They were shouting at the patrol from inside until they had arrived, they placed her head down and her feet up and they applied karate blows. She was very nervous, so was I.

The only protection a Cuban blogger has is exposure. Thank you for watching Yoani’s six.
As evil as Soviet Union was ,Aldof Hitler had great respect for the wealthy capitalist society of Germany. The Nazi idealogy was to allow all Germans from workers to rich corporations to add the betterment of their country.
Hitler made this point very clear to the rich corporations in Germany to continue with their business and thus this allowed the big companies to donate to National Socialist workers party(Nazi party) without fear it was going to far left movement such as the Communists and not allowing money and power to the other far right wing party the Nationalist German Party.
There is absolutely nothing socialistic about allowing rich corporations to still have free will under far left wing socialism. Hitler was not a socialist the only thing socialist about him was the fact the empty word was in the parties name.
Hitler was a product from the far right. The evil corporations like Mercedes Benz exploited jewish slave labour. Hitler and the NAZI’s had a great hatred of socialism.
As for the Soviets killing 5 times that of Hitler, just shows that you have a poor understanding of history.Stalin in that case would have killed everyone in the USSR.

It’s interesting that you regard capitalism, which can function only within a liberal democracy, as a greater evil than socialism, either communist or nationalist.
I could have been clearer, but I was referring to total genocide under the brand of communism. Even the most conservative estimates are at least 100 million.
Here’s a scoreboard.
Your putting words in my mouth Bernie, at no stage did i say Capitalism as a whole was more evil than Communism.Point this out to me in what i have written. But you did state the Soviet symbol empire killing more than five times that of Hitler is a load of rubbish as Hitlers regime was responsible for killing over 45 million people in Europe and Eastern Europe.
I did point out how Hitler allowed a free market and corporations to thrive under his brand of so called socialism which is really not socialism at all as you know full well as corporations do not have any freedom at all under the far left.
Thus making Hitler purely and solely a nationalist.
A product of a far right.
He hated and shut down unions, the democratic inner right and inner left(the labour movement)and far left i.e the communists. There have been some people in the west who have wanted to shut down all unions, labour movements and communism.
Aldof was in no way a product of the left.
But you can dream on and keep thinking there is no such thing as the far right and Hitler was a leftie.

Under socialist systems the government has tight control over all public activities. The Nazis controlled education, health, transport, the military, the courts and industry. Sure, they allowed compliant corporations to continue operation, why wouldn’t they, they’re the best people to run their businesses. But even under communism, limited corporatism is permitted. China’s May Day march always features a contingent of “capitalists”. In fact, there is not a great deal of difference between the Nazi state and Communist China today — both are socialist, totalitarian, fiercely nationalistic and intolerant of certain minorities. Try to start up a union in China that is not approved by the communist party and see how long you’d stay out of jail.
