Why indeed? 15/11/2008
Cripes! Guess what will be No.1 topic on The Age’s letters page Monday? Tracee Hutchison is about to learn that hell hath no fury like the sisterhood turning on its own.
I’m even more mystified as to why the first thing so many people seem to do when they become pregnant isn’t to organise the birthing location, it’s to put the child’s (potential) name down at the local child-care centre. Why have children if you don’t want to look after them?

Mem Fox is a writer of childrens books. She lives in Adelaide. Her daughter is Zoe, formerly a school-teacher, now a State M.P.(ALP).
Mrs Fox said pretty much the same thing.
Consternation amongst the Brave New Worlders.
But Mem Fox is correct.
Lord God, the woman is growing a conservative brain. I wonder whether she realizes that she’s sharing a core value with John Howard?
Traceeee is a certifable left-wing nutjob … but I think she’s looked back at her own “nuclear family” childhood and realised it wasn’t such a bad deal after all. Despite the fact that many women like Traceeee (and probably Traceeee herself) has often pushed these ‘progressive’ types of childcare-or-bust policies in the name of feminism.
All credit to her for her article – bet she’ll be short of Chrissy cards this year though – I might send her one!
