Hard yards ahead   6/11/2008

The election of Barack Obama to the US presidency has pleased millions worldwide and he deserves congratulations.
Now comes the hard part. Payback will be wanted by those who gave billions to his campaign and the media that corrupted every standard of objectivity to ensure his victory.
So the exceptionally inexperienced Obama will quickly need to surround himself with the best political and economic minds available if he wants to serve the people who elected him in preference to the vested interests who propelled his campaign. If he doesn’t he’ll be staring down the barrel at one term of leadership.
He’ll need expert political advice to distance himself from black militants, Marxist activists and Democrat-backing gangsters who shaped his political course. And he’ll need economic geniuses to help lift the US and world out of the financial mire without his administration stooping to useless socialist measures.
If he doesn’t embrace such advice he’ll soon be bouncing, like Rudd, from one failed measure to the next.
His first official condemnation should be directed at black racists, the sexist, criminal gangsta culture and losers who choose victimhood over individual responsibility.

Well said. Your observations from a distance are the same as many in the US. One of a certain age remembers a President in a similar situation….Jimmy Carter. Carter rode in on the similar wave for “change”. Jimmy’s was all bad ending up bordering on the incompetant. One can only wish President Obama the best and hope he does better than Jimmy.

Its been a bad year for you Bernie,
first your beloved John Coward the hunt loses the Australian federal election and then his replacement a man you HATE said sorry to the Aboriginals(a race you HATE) . . .
REPLY: You’ve been banned from this site, but I thought I’d publish this to show readers what a despicable, ignorant little cliche-spouting, hate-merchant you are. To brand a rational democrat a racist is on a par with making a racist slur. I suspect you are an ill-educated teenager with a highly inflated opinion of your intellect. However, if you’re not just a dumb teen, you’ve got problems.

Well he seems to have collected Clinton staffers and the Daley Chicago machine around him for his transition team.

    Hopey changy.

And remember this man had Jeremiah Wright on his payroll as an advisor and was planning to give him a role in AfricanAmerican relations or something stupid until the Clinton camp put an end to that in the primaries. Expect Ayers to become a media darling and spend the night in the Lincoln bedroom real soon.

He will be cautious at first (they are already dousing expectations see todays NYT) and looking at the turnout (118m lower than the 122m 2004) and his soft support(Obama didn’t get many more votes that Kerry in 2004 and Kerry actually ran against Bush, didn’t quite have a sycophantic media and got swiftboated; it was some 3-4m Republicans who stayed home and $600m that got him the White House) if the Repubs get over themselves and regroup, kick out the RINOS and the rot, make a play in 2010 and then 2012, Obama will be an easy target for a one term loser. Especially as the economy will continue to tank. More so if he introduces his tax policies early which even Murdoch labelled as ‘crazy’ the other day.

    Bordering? He was the exemplar.

Its amazing how conservatives are so hateful of Barack Obama. He won the election against the party which has been destroyed by its current idiot at the helm George W Bush, who will go down as one of the most unpolular presidents of all time.
Now the Republicans are turning on each other as some are blaming that hopeless redneck hockey mum Sarah Palin who will probably go back to Alaska to shoot animals for fun.

He won an election, now he has to produce results.
This will be challenging for someone who has never in his life produced anything.

James, I am not convinced that conservatives, at least none that I know, hate in the way that leftists find so easy. It is very strange that the people who think of themselves as the harbingers of sweetness and light are so quick to denigrate and dehumanise political opponents. We may dislike individuals, deplore policies, despair of their rudeness and malice, but Hate? No. That is your department.

I would really like to know the explanation for this strange state of affairs but the social sciences are dominated by people of leftwing inclinations and so the phenonemon is not adequately studied.

i am just so pleased that Obama won.
His brand of democratic socialism will not stuff up an economy already stuffed. Just a little redistribution…..

BTW: Is New Zealand now the world’s leading conservative government ?

I’d say it’s an incumbency problem generally. Just don’t curl up in the foetal position and hide in some remote cave in opposition, but show your face and utter ‘hope’ and ‘change’ and you’re in.

Mentioning ‘hard-working families’ and the ‘middle class’ is optional but not necessarily compulsory by the looks of things.

I’m more with our site host on that one Greg.

Quite the opposite to “not stuff up an economy”, Obama’s stamp on the country is likely to give American it’s own dose of Whitlamesque havoc.

Rafe, You’re wrong that conservatives dont hate . What about Jackie kelley and her husband falsely distributing that bogus flyer prior to last years election labelling the ALP terrorists associated with islamic extremists.
Thats the love you conservatives show for the left you hate so much.
Give me a break you conservatives are biggest hypocrites labelling the left with the hate your mob have so much in for anyone who is not like you.

I am pleased, for history’s sake, that he won, and now we can get onto more important things.
It is pleasing tho isn’t it ?
My yank mates, don’t see the massive opportunity, that their country has now. They now have a (and I hate to use the term), black president. It should open doors to the United States, that have never been open before.

Your opinion of “payback” is spot on Bernie. I speak to yanks quite regularly, who are of the same opinion. They will want “favours”, and for all our sakes, let’s hope they are not expensive, or dangerous ones ?

Steve at the pub, How on earth could you claim that someone who has just been elected President of the USA and leader of the free world has not produced anything in his life. If this was the case, any idiot could become President.
Oh Hang on, sorry, you are right any idiot can become President. Just look at the fathers son. George W Bush.
In all seriousness Bush and other previous presidents would have never have got there unless they were educated men. How on earth can you attack Barack Obama on not doing anything in his life.
What makes you so special Steve?
Time to grow up sore loser and get over the fact Obama won.

Don’t go there for comfort Harry. Bernie Banton was a victim of inadequate epidemiological knowledge which JH acknowledged in the early 80s by ceasing asbestos use. Now it wasn’t until Dec 2002 that hypocritical govts finally banned asbestos brake pads. You know, the dust from which emitted every time concerned Labor pollies pulled up with kids to drop them off at their private schools. Going after the current workers and shareholders of JH was an exercise in feelgood thuggery after so many before had absconded with the cheap private cost of their asbestos products cf the true social cost.

Can I take it you’re walking or cycling everywhere and not using any fossil fuels now the IPCC has declared CO2 the greatest threat to mankind since George Bush Harry? Otherwise the grandkids might be coming to get ya.

Are you like me still driving and using electricity, believing that until ‘we’ as a society ban some product or activity collectively it should be perfectly legal to trade same without retrospective wank? Or are you cycling about the servos cajoling the uni students behind the counter to toss their jobs immediately and join the all the tossers in their morally pure crusades?

James #15, I can easily claim someone who has just been elected president of the usa has never produced anything.

Because he hasn’t. His sole achievements are talking & looking charismatic. As a senator his sole achievement is turning up & parking his bum on a seat in the senate.

Now he has to run the USA, when he has never run anything larger than a chook raffle.

The yokel has not even yet held down a job for 4 years (the length of a predidential term)

After hearing Obama’s speech, I also share your hopeful hope regarding the new President. Its said that it took a Nixon to meet with Mao, and it took a Reagan to talk peace with the Soviet Union (it may have taken a Carter to invade Iran but he didn’t) and it may take an Obama to end affirmative action and other racially motivated legislation. Change, we can hope.

Steve at the pub, you’re an idiot.
Obama has achieved alot more in his life than you can dream off.He is a well educated man and has worked as a senator of illinois along with many other things that made him suitable for being president.
keep drinking at the pub. Its all your good at.

Harry, the only place you will see an idiot is in the mirror.

He has voted “present” as a senator for Illinois. That voting “present” was the biggest achievment of his life.

Btw, I rarely drink, and if I do, it is rarely in a pub. Research clearly ain’t your strong point, but then you believe Barack Obama has a resume!

No research is your failing point Steve, all you can do is write dribble about a man you hate to see as President.
Who you claim never went to university never worked for various companies and has done nothing with his life. You can believe the rubbish you write but can never show me anything to back your comments.
    Go back to the pub

Harry, (the research king) please provide evidence that I hate to see Barack Obama as president.
Also where I claim he never went to university.
He has done plenty with his life, he has ridden the “minority priveliges” gravy train right to the top. Unlikely a nutter like him would have got the nomination if he was white. Now he is about to get the keys to the castle the cold reality of what he has taken on will be sinking in. A man with no prior experience at running anything other than the dunny roll out of paper, no prior record of sticking to anything for so much as 4 years, and who believes that “talking” to baddies will cause them to stop being bad.
He will certainly be hitting the ground running.
By the way, are you parents aware you are using the computer?
