Vale Padraic   27/1/2008

As a writer, editor and commentator Paddy McGuinness could irritate or hearten, depending on the type of day you or he were experiencing. But most importantly, he could make you smile with utmost pleasure at the sheer elegance of his way with words. Rationalists and the pursuers of excellence will miss him dearly. Lesser minds won’t.
Fine obituary by Mark Juddery.

As an avid SMH reader nearly two decades ago I think it was, I came to see Paddy as one of the lone sane voices, the one who spoke to me and clarified my nagging doubts. For one thing he had a unique skeptical view of the hagio’ed Gough ascendancy, as an early insider. There will be less dissent on Gough’s path to sainthood now.

I will miss Paddy’s writing very much.

I missed him when he moved from The Australian – the SMH means nowt in the SE of SA, and hence lost contact with him. Sorely and sadly missed
