The back-to-the-caves crowd may downplay this contribution to global warming, but there’s soon to be some pretty intense local warming in Java as Mt Merapi blows her stack.
There’s also a fearsome rumble above the jungle in Ecuador that suggests a huge lava dump any day soon.
I’ve been searching without luck for information on how much volcanic emissions contribute to the overall CO2 global output.
I’d imagine a huge blow like Krakatoa in the late 19th century would have rivalled the industrial emission output of Europe over the period of eruption.
Dunno why I’m bothering to get an estimate. As a commenter said over at Tim Blair’s, volcanic CO2 emissions are natural CO2, therefore it’s good, unlike the nasty CO2 that cars produce.
